Curriculum
Teachers:
When you opt to participate in the International Towne program, you will receive a complete curriculum of 33 lessons at a day-long orientation. The hands-on, interactive lessons and activities can be incorporated into your school's curriculum over a period of time that works best for you. The culminating activity is a trip to Young Americans, International Towne facility, where your students spend the day role-playing as consumers and producers in a global marketplace of 16 countries. It's an unforgettable experience that fosters lifelong learning!
The user-friendly curriculum is packed with lessons and activities that not only teach basic global economics, but also reinforce cultural awareness, geography, math, science, language arts and civics.
International Towne Curriculum Chapters:
Chapter 1 - Global Economics
- Interdependence
- International trade
- Advantages and disadvantages of free trade and protection policies
Chapter 2 - Currency Exchange
- Import/export
- Foreign currencies
- Currency exchange
Chapter 3 - Cultural Awareness/Communications
- History of games played around the world
- Greetings and gestures used around the world
- History of flags and their symbolic meanings for countries and regions around the world
- Importance of cultural awareness
- International law
- International advertising
- Interviewing skills
Chapter 4 - Country Preparation
Students prepare for their day in International Towne by holding country meetings and training for their Towne positions as Presidents, Customs Agents, Finance Ministers, and Currency Exchange Specialists.
Chapter 5 - Closing Activities
Conducted back at school, these lessons evaluate country productivity and test concepts learned through fun activities such as GLOBE Bingo and International Trivia.
